TAVARES – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners recently approved a measure to reinstate 40-hour work weeks for staff with the Lake County Growth Management Department, Building Services Division, located on the fifth floor of the Lake County Administration Building at 315 W. Main St. in Tavares.
This action comes as the Building Services Division has seen a 22 percent rise in new single-family construction permits over the last nine months in Lake County.
The increase in staff working hours will allow Building Services to better serve residents seeking the various services offered by the division, including building permits, building inspections and reviews of commercial and residential plans.
The Lake County Building Services Division is funded through fees collected from building permits and inspections, which pay for staffing and operational costs. In 2009, 32-hour work weeks were instituted due to the decline in revenue, which resulted from a decrease in services requested.
