TAVARES — Lake County District 5 Commissioner Welton Cadwell was recently appointed to chair the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Community and Economic Development Steering Committee by Chris Rodgers, NACO’s President.
The committee is responsible for NACo policy development on all matters pertaining to general community development and redevelopment; residential, commercial, and industrial development; housing programs; building and housing codes; subdivision regulation; and public works and economic development.
Rodgers made his policy committee leadership appointments during the association’s 77th Annual Conference and Exposition held July 13-17 in Pittsburg, Pa.
“I am honored that President Rodgers would appoint me to this leadership position,” said Cadwell. “Most of the policies that come out of this committee affect the day-to-day lives of our citizens.”
Cadwell has been a member of NACo’s Community and Economic Development Steering Committee since 1997 and served six terms as vice chair. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors in addition to his new appointment.
NACo is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, the organization provides essential services to the nation’s 3,068 counties. NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
