TAVARES — Representatives from FAIRWINDS Credit Union presented Lake County with a $1,000 grant at the County Commission meeting held Tuesday, July 24, to help support a wetlands restoration project at Lake County’s PEAR Park, located at 4800 University Ave., Leesburg.
“We are very grateful to FAIRWINDS Credit Union and their contribution to one of Lake County’s premiere passive recreation parks,” said County Commission Chairwoman Leslie Campione. “With this contribution, we are going to be able to do some wonderful projects at two of our ephemeral ponds; including planting native plants, grasses and wildflowers representative of these types of wetland systems.”
Presenting the check to the County Commission was FAIRWINDS’ Regional Vice President Brenda Peterson, Lady Lake Branch Manager Kaleigh LeBeau, Leesburg Branch Manager Michele Jones, Mount Dora Branch Manager Omma Samaroo-Tahal and Marketing Assistant Katie Wade.
PEAR Park features several miles of trails, demonstration gardens, meadow and scrub restoration areas and ephemeral ponds. The ponds, once turned into borrow pits, have been re-contoured to approximate their historic forms and depths.
