TAVARES – If you are a Lake County resident in need of mulch to help control weeds or retain moisture in your lawn or garden, you’re in luck. The Lake County Solid Waste Division is offering mulch to residents, free of charge.
The mulch can be obtained from the Central Solid Waste Facility, located at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is available to residents for non-commercial use on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no limit to the amount of mulch a resident can take, and it is available until the supply is fully depleted.
There are several conditions residents must adhere to before they will be allowed to obtain mulch, which include:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Proof of residency must be provided
• A release form must be signed
The mulch is ground at the Central Solid Waste Facility, and consists of various hardwoods, which are discarded by residents. Those who wish to get mulch must bring their own equipment (i.e., shovels and containers). It is also recommended that residents bring helpers, if necessary, as no assistance will be provided by Solid Waste staff.
For more information about obtaining mulch, call the Lake County Solid Waste Division at 352-343-3776.
