TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to attend events for the week of Oct. 7-13. The week’s scheduled events are as follows:
• On Friday, Oct. 12, the Monthly Bird and Butterfly Survey will be held at Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR Park), located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg, from 7 to 11 a.m.
With this event, volunteers are asked to assist Park Rangers in monitoring the diversity of birds and butterflies, as ongoing restoration and land management continues at the site. Experience is a plus but not required, and surveyors must bring their own binoculars and field guides.
• An event entitled “Monitoring Water Quality” is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ellis Acres Reserve, located at 25302 County Road 42 in Paisley.
Participants will have an opportunity to get hands-on experience in water sampling, as they take specimens from Lake Akron. Those who partake will also learn about the important role water sampling plays in monitoring and maintaining the overall health of a water body.
Both events are free, and pre-registration is recommended. To maximize the nature experience, would-be participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
