TAVARES — The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting nature enthusiasts to attend some upcoming outdoor educational events at PEAR Park, located at 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg.
- Winter Wildlife Hike
Saturday, Dec. 8 from 8 to 10 a.m.
Park Rangers will lead participants through the many diverse habitats in search of wintering birds, mammals, and other wildlife. Some highlights of the hike include viewing the Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobcat and Northern Harrier, which have been known to make appearances during this time of year.
- Monthly Bird & Butterfly Hike
Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 7 to 11 a.m.
The hike will consist of traversing roughly 2-miles through the park in search of migratory birds and butterflies that are currently found within the area. Experienced bird- and butterfly-watching volunteers are invited to help conduct surveys of the population, and should be able to identify common bird and butterfly species, by sight or sound, throughout the parks.
All events are free, and pre-registration is recommended due to space limitations. To maximize the nature experience, would-be participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, field guides, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
