MINNEOLA - The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with the City of Minneola and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, will hold a Prescription Drugs Take-Back and Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Minneola City Hall, located at 800 N. U.S. Highway 27.
The purpose of the event is to encourage Lake County residents to properly dispose of unwanted or expired ingestible medicines, like cough syrups, as well as vitamins and supplements. The proper disposal of these substances helps prevent accidental ingestion by minors and animals, and also avoids potential water supply contamination by those who would dispose of these items down the drain.
The County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit also will be on-hand to collect unwanted household hazardous waste. Residents will be able to dispose of waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, photo and swimming pool chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks.
The staff at the event will be offering convenient drive-thru disposal of medications and household hazardous waste, so residents won’t have to leave their vehicle.
Materials such as infectious waste, solvents, chemical laboratory waste and radioactive waste are prohibited.
