TAVARES — This weekend, the Lake Soil & Water Conservation District will give away bare-root tree seedlings on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Those interested may receive plants on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Lake County Agricultural Center’s Horticultural Learning Center at the Discovery Gardens, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Doors will open at 11 a.m.
“In previous years, there has been a large turnout for the tree giveaway,” said Betsy Farner, board supervisor with the Lake Soil & Water Conservation District. “Due to the event’s popularity, we are encouraging residents to line up early.”
Each person will be allowed one tree of each available variety: Dogwood, Green Ash, Live Oak, Common Persimmon, Chickasaw Plum and Pine. The trees are 6- to 18-inch seedlings and are free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to support the annual tree giveaway program.
The Lake Soil & Water Conservation District makes this giveaway possible by partnering with the Florida Forest Service. For more information, call 352-253-1646 or email email@example.com.
