TAVARES — Lake County’s Growth Management staff announced this week that they now are accepting commercial and industrial permits electronically through the county’s website at www.lakecountyfl.gov.
The county now has 40 types of permits available online, including single-family dwelling units. Also available electronically are the pre-application conference and online site plan process.
“We’ve started to see an increase in commercial permits over the past two years,” said Amye King, director of Lake County’s Growth Management Department. “Adding the commercial and industrial permits online makes it more convenient for businesses by allowing them to submit all of the necessary documents remotely, without having to drive to the county’s Administrative Building.”
One of the goals for the county’s Economic Action Plan includes creating a business-friendly environment, and simplifying the permitting process. As part of the plan, the county staff continually evaluates processes for increased efficiencies, which improves customer service for local businesses.
Transforming the in-person process of accepting commercial and industrial permits to an online format, along with the development of informational tutorials, was achieved in-house by a team of staff comprised from the county’s Growth Management Department, Information Technology Department, Communications Department and the Lake County Health Department.
In April 2013, the team is slated to complete an online impact fee calculator. Other future projects for the team include creating online tutorials and allowing applications for preliminary plats and rezoning requests.
