TAVARES — The Lake County Board of County Commissioners decided at its scheduled workshop session on Tuesday, Sept. 12, to delay its review of the comprehensive plan draft until the Local Planning Agency (LPA) can complete its preparation of the plan and forward its recommendations to the Board. The County Commission also encouraged the LPA to finish its review of the comprehensive plan draft by Nov. 1.
The LPA, a citizen advisory board responsible for assisting in development and revision of the Lake County Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations, has been in the process of drafting the new comprehensive plan, titled Planning Horizon 2025, for the past two years. The LPA recently transmitted the majority of the comprehensive plan to the Board of County Commissioners, except for the future land-use map and accompanying future land-use element of the comprehensive plan.
The LPA is scheduled to review the future land-use map and element at a scheduled meeting on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers, located on the second floor of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St.
Due to the change in the LPA’s schedule for transmitting the entire comprehensive plan to the Board of County Commissioners, the Board has cancelled its previously scheduled public meetings for the comprehensive plan. The Department of Growth Management has received dozens of requests to speak at a Friday, Sept. 15, workshop session of the Board of County Commissioners. Staff will be making every attempt to contact these individuals to let them know the workshop session has been cancelled.
