TAVARES — Park rangers invite residents and visitors to learn about Lake County’s abundant wildlife and unique ecosystems while enjoying the outdoors.
• Bird & Butterfly Survey
7 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18
The Ferndale Preserve, 19220 County Road 455, Ferndale
This is a quarterly census of the birds and butterflies on the preserve to assist in monitoring the effects of restoration and land management on the long-term biodiversity of the site. Experience is helpful but not necessary. Binoculars and a field guide are required for this event.
• Lake Norris Hike, Paddle & Pick
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 19
Lake Norris Conservation, Lake Norris Road, Eustis
Naturalists will lead a mile-long hike, identifying plants and animals, then enjoy a guided paddling trip. Along the way, participants will be able to clean up litter to keep the waterway healthy.

• Outdoor Beginning Birder Class
8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20
The PEAR Park Gateway, 2670 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg
Participants will learn everything from birding etiquette to optics, applying it on this guided hike.
All events are free. To maximize the outdoor experience, participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, field guides, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
