TAVARES — The Lake County Clerk of Courts introduced last month a new online system, Jury Web, which expedites the process of rescheduling and excusing prospective jurors.
Dozens of summonses are mailed out each week instructing the potential jurors when to report to the Lake County Judicial Center for service. Jury Web allows potential jurors to reschedule or excuse themselves from service through the Clerk of the Courts Web site, www.lakecountyclerk.org. Previously, potential Lake County jurors would have to show up to the courthouse, call or fax an excusal or rescheduling request.
The new online system also allows potential jurors to update personal information. In addition, after serving, jurors can request a certificate of service through the online application. Other features include driving directions to the Lake County Judicial Center and requirements of jury duty.
“This will not only save time for potential jurors, but will also free up staff to further improve the jury selection process,” said Lake County Clerk of Court James C. Watkins.
The year-and-a-half project to develop the Web programming for Jury Web was a cooperative effort between the Clerks’ Office Jury Management and Information Resources departments and the Lake County Board of County Commissioners Information Outreach Section.
To use Jury Web, follow the directions provided with each jury summons. For more information about the Lake County jury system, call the Lake County Clerk of Courts Jury Management Division at (352) 742-4160.
