SORRENTO – The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, is encouraging Lake County residents to dispose of unwanted medications and toxic materials in a safe and environmentally sensitive way – helping to prevent improper use by others – at an upcoming Prescription Drugs and Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 11 in the Sorrento Park parking lot, 31535 Church St., Sorrento.
Residents will be able to dispose of unwanted medications, waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, photo and swimming-pool chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks. The County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit also will offer convenient disposal at a drive-thru service.
“Unattended and unused medications often contribute to accidental poisoning and are the cause of many medical emergencies,” said Johnny Taylor, Lake County’s Hazardous Waste & E-Cycling Supervisor. “That’s why it is important to remove all unused medications right away, and collection events like these make the process convenient and easy for our residents.”
Materials such infectious waste, solvents, chemical-laboratory waste, and waste containing a high content of heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium, as well as radioactive waste are prohibited.
