Upcoming events to highlight
Lake County’s wildlife and natural areas

RELEASE DATE: July 10, 2013

TAVARES — Bird enthusiasts are invited to join Lake County Park Rangers as they explore Lake County’s scenic parks and preserves during three upcoming events. 

• Bird & Butterfly Walk
8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13
Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley
Take a casual hike through the reserve with park rangers to learn about the area’s birds and butterflies.

• Bird & Butterfly Survey
7 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 19
PEAR Park Wildlife Conservation Area, 4800 University Ave., Leesburg
This monthly survey will assist park rangers in tracking the site’s diversity as the county conducts restoration and land management. 

• Bird & Butterfly Survey
7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20
Ferndale Preserve, 19220 County Road 455, Ferndale
This is a monthly census of the birds and butterflies on the preserve to assist in monitoring the effects of restoration and land management on the long-term biodiversity of the site. 

The events are free, and registration is recommended. To maximize the outdoor experience, participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, field guides, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. 

Parks & Trails offers nature-based events throughout the year that give residents and visitors a chance to explore Lake County’s unique outdoor amenities. The weekend of Oct. 4-6, Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department is teaming up with the Lake County Parks & Trails Division to host the Second Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival at Hickory Point Park in Tavares. The festival will feature acclaimed speakers, authors, birding and native plant experts, and a host of eco-friendly opportunities for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
