EUSTIS – The Lake County Solid Waste Division, in partnership with Eustis Police Department, is asking residents to dispose of unwanted medications and household hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 22 at Eustis Square Shopping Center, 218 W. Ardice Avenue, Eustis.
The event encourages Lake County residents to properly remove unwanted or expired ingestible medicines, such as cough syrups, as well as vitamins and supplements, from their homes. The proper disposal of these substances helps prevent accidental ingestion by minors and animals, and also avoids potential water-supply contamination by those who would deposit these items down the drain.
The County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit also will be on-hand to collect unwanted household hazardous waste. Residents will be able to drop-off waste products such as lawn and gardening materials, photo and swimming pool chemicals, paint and related products, cleaning solutions, motor oil and used gas, batteries, fluorescent lamps, light bulbs and small propane tanks.
The staff at the event will be offering convenient drive-thru disposal of unwanted medications and household hazardous waste, so residents won’t have to leave their vehicle.
Materials such as infectious waste, solvents, chemical laboratory waste and radioactive waste are prohibited.
