Outdoors enthusiasts, families invited to enjoy
the 2nd Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival
High-profile experts, activities, field trips to celebrate Lake County’s beauty

RELEASE DATE: August 20, 2013

TAVARES — The Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Department invites birders, native-plant enthusiasts and families to celebrate the diversity of Lake County’s local wildlife and natural areas by attending the 2nd Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival. The event will take place the weekend of Oct. 4 through 6, at Hickory Point Recreational Park, 27341 State Road 19, Tavares. 

Unique birding and wildflower programs during the festival will feature acclaimed speakers, authors, birding and native plant experts, and a host of eco-friendly opportunities for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers. Specialty field trips by renowned experts will be offered off-site at both private and public venues on foot, by pontoon boat, kayak and Conestoga wagon. 

Some locales being spotlighted during the festival include the Lake Apopka Restoration Area, the Florida Scrub-jay Trail, the Green Swamp, the Dora Canal and the Ocala National Forest.

The festival’s keynote speakers will be Jeffrey A. Gordon, president of the American Birding Association; James Currie, the host of NBC Sports’ “Nikon Birding Adventures”; and Dr. Walter Taylor, professor emeritus at the University of Central Florida, board member of the Florida Wildflower Foundation, and wildflower expert and author.
