Park Rangers offer several opportunities for residents to explore outdoors

RELEASE DATE: October 17, 2013

TAVARES — The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting residents to join park rangers for several upcoming nature-based events this weekend at some of Lake County’s premiere wildlife viewing areas.

  • Bird & Butterfly Survey
    Friday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 11 a.m.
PEAR Park, 4800 University Ave. in Leesburg
During the event, participants are encouraged to help Lake County Park Rangers identify common bird and butterfly species, by sight or sound, throughout the park.
  • Nocturnal Migration
    Friday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ferndale Preserve, 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale
Join Park Rangers for a rare nighttime event where participants will listen for nocturnal flight calls of migrating songbirds and watch for birds flying overhead in the moonlight.
  • Wood Warbler Walk
    Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 to 10 a.m.
Ferndale Preserve, 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale
Join Park Rangers as participants search for small, energetic and colorful migrant warblers that are migrating to their wintering grounds.
  • Evening Wings & Wildlife Walk
    Saturday, Oct. 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Lake May Reserve, County Road 44A in Eustis.
Park Rangers will lead participants on an evening hike along the reserve’s trails looking for wildlife that becomes active as daylight fades.

All events are free, and pre-registration is recommended due to space limitations. To maximize the nature experience, would-be participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, field guides, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
