Online voting now available for Lake County’s 2014 Adopt-A-Lake Program Calendar photographs

RELEASE DATE: October 31, 2013

TAVARES —The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program is conducting an online poll that allows the community to vote for the winning photographs to be included in the 2014 Adopt-a-Lake Program Calendar. Online voting will end at midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 13. To vote, visit www.lakecountyfl.gov/adoptlake.

Comcast and Brighthouse subscribers throughout Lake County and The Villages can also view the 35 semi-finalist photos on Lake-Sumter Television (LSTV). LSTV can be seen on Comcast channel 13 and Brighthouse 199. For specific air times, visit www.LakeSumterTV.com.

A panel made up of County employees, a volunteer and County Commission Chairman Leslie Campione, independently rated more than 300 entries; paring them down to a semi-finalist list of 35 photographs. The top 14 vote-getters will be featured in the calendar and the photograph receiving the most votes will grace the calendar’s cover. Voting is limited to one vote per day.

Adopt-a-Lake calendars, which include beautiful pictures from water bodies in Lake County, will be available beginning the week of Nov. 25 for a suggested donation of $5. The proceeds benefit the Adopt-a-Lake Program. Calendars will be available at several locations, to be announced at a later date. Orders can also be mailed to: Adopt-a-Lake Program, P.O. Box 7800, Tavares, FL 32778. Checks should be made payable to Lake County BCC.

If placing a mail order, include $1 additional for postage costs. For questions about the calendar contact Cathie Catasus by email at ccatasus@lakecountyfl.gov or by phone at 352-253-1686.

The Adopt–a–Lake Program is similar in some aspects to the County's Adopt-a-Roadway Program. The program encourages local civic organizations, individuals and fraternal and business groups to adopt a segment of a lake's shoreline.

The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program is comprised of three separate components: Water-quality monitoring, public education and pollution prevention. Volunteers can elect which components of the program best fit their desired level of participation.

For information on becoming a volunteer, contact Cathie Catasus at ccatasus@lakecountyfl.gov.
