TAVARES —The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Calendars for 2014 are now available, and feature the top 14 photos selected through the 2014 Adopt-a-Lake photo contest. The top-scoring photograph of Lake Minneola submitted by Wendy Burkett is featured on the calendar’s front cover.
Over 300 photos of Lake County water bodies were entered in the 2014 Adopt-a-Lake photo contest. A committee narrowed the photos down to 35 semi-finalists. These semi-finalist photos were then voted on by the public on the Adopt-a-Lake webpage. More than 3000 votes were submitted to select the top 14 photographs. The semi-finalists’ runner-up photos are included in a special section in the back of the calendar.
The Adopt-a-Lake Calendars, which include the selected pictures from water bodies in Lake County, are available for a suggested donation of $5 from the Lake County Public Works Department, Water Resource Management Laboratory. Proceeds from calendar sales benefit the volunteer Adopt-a-Lake Program.
Calendars are available at multiple locations in Tavares this year, including the Lake County Water Lab at 12923 County Landfill Road, Solid Waste Administration Office at 13130 County Landfill Road and the information desk at the Lake County Administration Building at 315 W. Main St. Calendars can also be purchased by mailing a check to: Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Adopt-a-Lake Program, P.O. Box 7800, Tavares, FL 32778. If requesting a calendar by mail, include an additional $1 for postage.
The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program is comprised of three separate components: Water-quality monitoring, public education and pollution prevention. Volunteers can elect which components of the program best fit their desired level of participation.
