TAVARES — The Lake County Public Works Department, as part of the downtown Tavares road realignment project, will be closing Alfred Street from State Road 19 to Sinclair Avenue beginning on Monday, Dec. 2 and the road will remain closed for an estimated two weeks.
The city of Tavares is currently overseeing a utility project to replace water and sewer lines within the downtown area. Beginning Dec. 2, Lake County will begin the Tavares road project, which will establish one-way directional traffic between State Road 19 and Disston Avenue. Once completed, Alfred Street, also known as Old U.S. Highway 441, will be utilized for eastbound traffic and Caroline Street will be utilized for westbound traffic through downtown Tavares.
“As the project continues over the next year, portions of Alfred Street will intermittently be closed or have traffic redirections in place,” stated Lori Conway, Lake County Road Operations Division Manager. “Detour signs will be in place to assist the motoring public.”
Motorists traveling from Leesburg who are intending to visit the downtown government complex are advised to turn southbound on N. Sinclair Avenue from U.S. Highway 441 in Tavares. Those travelling from downtown Tavares towards Leesburg are advised to travel west on W. Main Street, turn northbound on State Road 19/N. Duncan Drive, then turn westbound onto Lakeshore Boulevard to access U.S. Highway 441.
Access to the Lake County Probation Office, 518 W. Alfred St., Tavares, will be available from Sinclair Avenue, with directional signs in place to assist motorists.
