TAVARES — The Lake Soil & Water Conservation District, in partnership with the Florida Forest Service, will be giving away bare-root tree seedlings on Thursday, Jan. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center’s Horticultural Learning Center at the Discovery Gardens, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares. Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis until the supply is depleted.
Each person will be allowed one tree of each available variety: Dogwood, Crape Myrtle, American Elm, Nuttal Oak, Redbud and Pine. The trees are 12- to 24-inch seedlings and are free, but donations will be accepted to support the annual tree giveaway program.
