TAVARES — The Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Department will host an application learning session for the Capital Projects Funding Program from 2 - 4 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at the Lake County Agricultural Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.
The purpose of the program, which is funded through the Lake County Tourism Tax, is to allow local not-for-profit or publicly-owned and/or operated organizations to apply for funds for capital infrastructure projects that will enhance Lake County as a tourist destination.
In order for projects to be considered, they must be located within Lake County and serve to establish new or expand existing facilities for recreational activities, cultural events and performances hosted and promoted within the county. The projects must be able to attract a substantial number of overnight tourists and visitors to Lake County. Applicants must provide a 50 percent cash match.
Applications are due by 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, with the first preliminary hearing date scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, May 5, and the second hearing set for 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. Both hearings will take place at the Lake County Board of County Commissioners Chambers, located on the second floor of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
