TAVARES — Lake County Department of Growth Management, Code Enforcement Division, recently joined in a statewide initiative with dozens of other local governments to remove illegal signs from roadways.
On Sept. 30, County staff removed more than 1,000 signs totaling over 500 pounds during Operation Sign Sweep. The goal of the operation was to reduce sign clutter and deter the number of signs placed illegally within the right-of-way of public roads. The operation included the removal of illegal signs, as well as outreach efforts to educate citizens and businesses within Lake County about the codes and ordinances governing signage.
The operation was endorsed by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement and the Central Florida Association of Code Enforcement. Other local governments from Lake County participating in the operation included Eustis, Fruitland Park, Howey-in-the-Hills, Lady Lake, Leesburg, Mount Dora and Tavares.
