LADY LAKE —The National Golf Association’s (NGA) Professional Golf Tour will present the Lake County Classic from March 24 – 30 at Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake.
An open qualifier will be held on Monday, March 24 with a free golf clinic presented by Comfort Suites to follow on Tuesday, March 25. The Lake County Classic Pro-Am is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26 and consists of three amateurs paired with an NGA Tour professional in a scramble format. The first round of the Lake County Classic will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27.
Admission is free to the public.
“Lake County is a golfer’s paradise and we are thrilled to welcome the NGA to Harbor Hills, one of the county’s premier golf courses,” said Robert Chandler, director of Lake County’s Economic Development & Tourism Department.
The NGA Tour is ranked third for men’s professional golf tours in the United States after the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) and Web.com Tours, and has helped hundreds of professionals acquire their PGA Tour, European, Web.com and Champions Tour cards.
“The main purpose of the NGA Tour is to prepare our players to move on to the Web.com and PGA Tours,” said Robin L. Waters, NGA Tour president. “By adding another top-notch course like Harbor Hills Country Club, our players will have yet another opportunity to prepare themselves for the next level.”
NGA Tour alumni include 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson; 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley; 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year and 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk; 2009 British Open Champion Stewart Cink; 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover and 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson.
Established in 1988, the NGA Tour predates the Web.com Tour as the longest running developmental tour in golf.
