CLERMONT — Join the Lake County Department of Public Works, Parks and Trails Division, on a free naturalist-led walk through Palatlakaha Park, located at 12325 Hull Road, Clermont, on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 9:30 a.m. To reserve a spot for the guided walk, call (352) 742-0992.
A popular park for boaters, the Palatlakaha Park features a boat ramp on the river, excellent bank fishing, playground tot lot and picnic tables with shelter. A hidden gem in this 35-acre property is the nature trail winding through the exquisite riverine ecosystem. Along the Palatlakaha River, the trail reveals views of swamp ferns, pond cypress and wetland wildflowers. Crossing Hull Road, the trail continues through a different ecosystem.
A sand pine scrub is one of Florida’s most unique ecosystems. A host of plants and animals can only be seen in these environments, plants such as the lacey sand square, blazing star and scrub holly and animals such as the Florida scrub jay, gopher tortoise and sand skink.
