Lake County Cooperative Extension to host series of seminars to educate and inform horse enthusiasts

RELEASE DATE: October 12, 2006

TAVARES — The Lake County Cooperative Extension, a partnership by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida Institute of Food Agricultural Science, is hosting a series of seminars for horse enthusiasts, beginning on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 12 to 4 p.m.

The first program, “More Tools to Effectively Respond to Behavior through Communication,” is designed to give participants insight into horse behavior by learning various techniques to improve communication between humans and horses. Participants will learn how to “read” their horses’ reactions to situations and find ways to work together to modify behaviors.

The seminar will take place at the Horses for Riders with Disabilities (HeRD) facility, located at 11000 Key Lime Drive, Clermont. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.

The deadline to register for the seminar is Thursday, Nov. 9. The cost of registration is $20. Current 4-H members can register for free. Proceeds from a $5 lunch will benefit the HeRD Program. For more information or to register for the seminar, call Martha Thomas or Maggie Jarrell at (352) 343-4101.
