TAVARES – Unincorporated Lake County’s residential curbside garbage collection is changing on Monday, Oct. 6 to a “1-1-1” service consisting of once-per-week trash, one-per-week recycling and once-per-week yard waste pick-up. Homeowners in unincorporated areas will be receiving postcards in the mail with detailed information about the county-issued trash and recycling carts, which will be delivered between August and September.
All residents in unincorporated Lake County will receive one free 95-gallon cart for trash and one free 65-gallon cart for recycling. If a resident lives in a retirement community and their homeowners association opted to use the new carts, the default sizes will be 65-gallon carts for trash and 35-gallon carts for recycling. If these cart sizes meet the needs of the household, no further action will be required.
However, the postcards will offer instructions on how residents can change their default cart sizes or delay delivery of the carts, if needed. Residents must notify their haulers of any desired changes by May 30. Contact information for haulers by service area will be listed on the postcards.
