YALAHA – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners, in conjunction with the Yalaha Community Club, is inviting the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 27 at the newly constructed community center located at 26548 Yalaha Road, Yalaha.
The new 1,500-square foot building includes bathrooms, a kitchen and a large activity room. The community center will be used for a children’s after school program, senior citizen activities, social functions and other community events serving the residents in the Yalaha community.
“A small group of community leaders have been actively supporting the building of this community center project since the old wooden structure was torn-down because it had fallen into disrepair,” said Cheryl Howell, Lake County Housing Services Division Manager. “After several meetings, the County Commission approved a Community Development Block Grant and began a partnership agreement with the Yalaha Community Club to construct a new community center on the same site as the prior structure.”
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is funded under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CDBG program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of community development needs and provides annual grants to local governments.
