TAVARES – Alfred Street from Caroline Street to St. Clair Abrams Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning Wednesday, June 18.
Drivers in downtown Tavares will be able to access the Lake County Government Complex parking garage entrance on Sinclair Avenue via Main Street or Caroline Street. Alfred Street at the intersection of Sinclair Avenue will be primarily open to through traffic beginning on Friday, June 20; however periodic closures should be expected as road work continues in the area.
Detour signs will be posted to alert the public, and motorists are asked to use caution.
From June 18 - July 7, drivers should also expect lane closures on Alfred Street from Disston Avenue to Dora Avenue. The road will remain open to traffic, but drivers may experience delays.
Currently, drivers coming into downtown Tavares from Leesburg are being diverted from Alfred Street onto the newly paved Caroline Street. This route will remain open, with Caroline Street from Alfred Street to St. Clair Abrams Avenue open to traffic.
Once complete, the Alfred Street project will establish one-way directional traffic between State Road 19 and Disston Avenue. The city of Tavares is also currently overseeing a utility project to replace water and sewer lines in the downtown area.
