Animal Services to host puppy and kitten baby shower

RELEASE DATE: June 18, 2014

TAVARES – Lake County Animal Services is hosting a puppy and kitten baby shower and the entire community is invited. The event, which features dozens of adoptable animals, prizes, goodie bags and refreshments, will be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at the shelter, located at 28123 County Road 561, Tavares.

“We are so excited to host this community event and hope to gain more exposure for our wonderful shelter animals,” said Jenn Ferguson, Animal Services supervisor.  “We’ll have boxers, beagles and lab puppies, as well as calicos, Siamese and Russian blue kittens available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis.”

All animals must be spayed/neutered upon adoption. Adoption rates are $40 for kittens and $50 for puppies and include sterilization, microchip, first round of vaccines and a county-issued tag. Additional booster shots may be required at the adopter’s expense.

Guests are asked, but not required, to also bring a gift for the animals from the shelter’s baby shower registry, which includes kitten and puppy food, scoopable litter, litter boxes, toys, new pet bedding and kitten and puppy powder milk formulas.

For those who cannot adopt, fostering is an ideal temporary option. Training is available through Lake County’s Volunteer Program. Interested persons can complete an application at www.lakecountyfl.gov/volunteer. In particular, foster families are needed to house very young kittens for a short time until they are old enough to be returned to the shelter and be offered for adoption.
