TAVARES – The Lake County Parks & Trails Division is inviting outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy three opportunities in July to survey birds and butterflies.
Join park rangers for the events, conducted from 7:30 – 11 a.m., on the following dates:
- Saturday, July 12
Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR) Park
4800 University Ave., Leesburg
- Friday, July 18
Lake May Reserve
36300 County Road 44A, Eustis
- Saturday, July 19

To participate in the surveys, knowledge of common species is a plus, but not required. The surveys will include hiking about two miles on unpaved trails. To maximize the outdoor experience, participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, field guides, water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes.
The Parks & Trails Division’s monthly census of birds and butterflies assist in monitoring the effects of restoration and land management on the long-term biodiversity of Lake County’s various parks and preserves.
The Bird & Butterfly Surveys are free and online registration is recommended.
