TAVARES – The only thing that could make kids happier than balloons, a bounce house and a bean bag toss would be all that plus puppies. Lake County Animal Services will be offering K-9 companions for adoption at a Community Carnival, held from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Hurricane Dockside Grill, 3351 W. Burleigh Blvd., Tavares.
The family event will feature Animal Services dogs on-site and available for on-the-spot adoptions, along with children’s carnival games and a 4-on-4 volleyball tournament at the restaurant’s waterfront beach and patio. Proceeds from the tournament, which has a $10 entry fee, will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Golden Triangle YMCA.
“As the largest pet-friendly restaurant in Tavares, it makes sense for Hurricane Dockside Grill to host a Community Carnival for the entire family that benefits wonderful local charities as well as our county shelter,” said Derrick Haggerty, general manager of Hurricane Dockside Grill.

“As always, Animal Services is grateful for the outpouring of community support,” said Brian Sheahan, director of Lake County’s Department of Community Safety & Compliance. “We are looking forward to another successful weekend in getting shelter pets adopted into loving homes.”
Attendees of the event are also encouraged to visit the shelter, which is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, to take part in the county’s “Cat and Dog Days of Summer Sale.” Through July 26, all animals are $10 to adopt, and cats are buy-one-get-one-free.
