LEESBURG – Organizers of the 3rd Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 3-5 in Leesburg, are seeking nature-minded volunteers who are willing and able to assist in various aspects of this increasingly popular ecotourism event.
“Our volunteers are considered our front line ambassadors,” said Kathy Pagan, the festival’s volunteer coordinator and a member of the Lake County Economic Development and Tourism Department. “They are the warm welcome and our eyes and ears helping to make this family-friendly, educational event run smoothly and successfully.”
The festival will take place across three days at Venetian Gardens, located at 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg, and will spotlight Lake County’s growing reputation as Florida’s premier birding destination.
Volunteer tasks will include assisting program speakers, staffing registration and information booths, merchandise sales and providing program support. Field trip volunteers will assist birding experts by helping to keep track of rosters and attendees. Most volunteers will be asked to work four-hour shifts, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and time slots are flexible.
Volunteers are required to attend one of two available training sessions, which will be held between 3-5 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Venetian Gardens. Training will include specific task information and provide general festival details such as maps, contact lists and safety protocol. At the completion of training, volunteers will receive rosters, signs, staff T-shirts and a tote bag featuring the 2014 Wings and Wildflowers Festival’s commemorative, custom-designed artwork.
“In previous years, dozens of attendee surveys gave tribute to the festival’s friendly, helpful, and dedicated volunteer staff,” Pagan added. “Our volunteers always provide a great welcome to our visitors and we look forward to seeing some new faces at this year’s Wings & Wildflowers Festival.”
