TAVARES – Lake County’s Wings & Wildflowers Festival was honored with three Florida Festivals & Events Association (FFEA) awards during the association’s 20th Anniversary Convention & Tradeshow in Orlando last week.
The Lake County Economic Development and Tourism Department accepted the “Sunsational” awards for promotional poster (second place), promotional item (third place) and website (third place), all of which were designed in-house by Lake County’s Communications Department.
The awards program recognized creativity, innovation and excellence in festival organization. The FFEA’s mission is to promote and strengthen the festival, event and fair industry in Florida. Since 1994, the FFEA has grown to more than 415 members and represents 750 events throughout the state of Florida.
The 3rd Annual Wings & Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 3-5 at Leesburg’s Venetian Gardens, shines a spotlight on Lake County’s growing reputation as Florida’s premier birding destination. The goal of the festival is to enhance awareness and appreciation of Lake County’s ecotourism, natural resources and quality of life.
The festival features field trips to birding hotspots and wildflower havens and brings some of the nation's top birding, wildflower and nature experts to the area. This year’s keynote speakers include Greg Miller, the inspiration behind the star-studded film “The Big Year,” Stacy Tornio, editor of the premier national birding and gardening publication “Birds & Blooms” and Roger L. Hammer, an award-winning naturalist and author who served as the director of Castellow Hammock Nature Center in Miami.
