LEESBURG – The 3rd Annual Wings & Wildflowers Festival, which celebrates the beauty and diversity of Lake County’s natural resources, is teaming up with the Leesburg Center for the Arts to showcase the festival through the eyes of artists.
The center is hosting a Wings & Wildflowers-themed exhibit from Sept. 15 – Oct. 11 featuring original, nature-inspired art by the Pastel Society of Central Florida. Art and nature enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the gallery, located at 429 W. Magnolia St. in Leesburg, during business hours from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Kiosks at the gallery will also be open to the public featuring a schedule of events and the ability to sign up for presentations, field trips and keynote dinners for the Wings & Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 3-5 at Venetian Gardens, 109 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg.
During the festival, plein air painters - plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” - will capture Venetian Gardens’ scenery as they create their masterpieces before a live audience of festival-goers. The artists will be painting at the festival grounds from 9 a.m. - noon on Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4 and from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5.
"This is an opportunity for us to showcase some of the area’s best artists and the artwork featuring our county’s greatest asset, its wings and wildflowers,” said Amy Painter, executive director of the center. “Visitors will see the local colors come alive through the eyes of the artists who live and work here."
In addition, a “Meet the Artists” reception, sponsored by the Lake County Economic Development &Tourism Department, will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the Leesburg Center for the Arts.
