MOUNT DORA – The 40th Annual Mount Dora Bicycle Festival, hosted by the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Lake County, will be held Oct. 10 – 12 and feature new routes as well as some old time favorites.
The festival this weekend will include guided tours of Lake County’s historic and beautiful landscapes, a ghost ride, a century ride and a street party with live entertainment and food vendors.
The year’s special guest is world-renowned cyclist Grant Potter, a Mount Dora resident.
“Grant's participation is sure to help draw numbers and add another level of quality to the event,” said Tracy Draper, festival organizer. “During the off-season, Grant brings cyclists up from South Florida for training camps so that he can utilize the hills and country roads of Lake County.”
Lake County is a prime destination for sports tourism, events and activities due to its unique topography, which includes over 1,000 named lakes, nature trails, rolling hills and scenic vistas.
The county’s Tourist Development Resort Tax revenue is up 14 percent year-to-date, and county officials attribute a significant portion of that increase to the rapidly growing sports tourism industry in Lake County.
“Lake County is a proud sponsor of the Mount Dora Bicycle Festival, a large-scale annual event that truly highlights some of the best aspects of Lake County, such as our sports friendly terrain and lively downtown districts,” said Robert Chandler, Lake County’s Economic Development and Tourism Director.
