TAVARES – Beginning on Monday, Oct. 20, motorists should be aware of changes to traffic patterns along Alfred and Caroline streets in downtown Tavares.
The closed portion of Alfred Street from Caroline Street to Disston Avenue will open to eastbound traffic on Monday.
In addition, Caroline Street from Alfred Street to Disston Avenue, which is currently open to two-way traffic, will shift to one-way, westbound traffic only. Caroline Street will also experience periodic lane closures so that the final asphalt may be placed along the roadway. Detour signs will be posted to alert the public and motorists are asked to use caution in the area.
The changes are part of the continuing roadwork surrounding the Alfred Street project in downtown Tavares and Monday’s shift will reflect the permanent traffic pattern designed to complete the project.
Once complete, the Alfred Street project will establish one-way directional traffic between State Road 19 and Disston Avenue. The city of Tavares is also currently overseeing a utility project to replace water and sewer lines in the downtown area.
