TAVARES – The online poll to choose the winning photos of local waterways for the Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program’s 2015 calendar will open Friday, Oct. 31 at www.lakecountyfl.gov/adoptlake.
A panel including county employees, volunteers and Lake County Commissioner Sean Parks independently rated more than 220 entries, paring them down to 32 semifinalist photo submissions. The community will have an opportunity to vote online for the top 14, which will be featured in the calendar. The photograph receiving the most votes will grace the calendar’s cover.
Voting will close at midnight on Friday, Nov. 14 and is limited to one vote per day.
Now in its sixth year of production, the Adopt-a-Lake calendar will be available beginning Thanksgiving week for a suggested donation of $5, with proceeds benefiting the Adopt-a-Lake Program. The calendar may be purchased at the Lake County Public Works Department, Water Resource Management Laboratory at 12923 County Landfill Rd., Tavares, or via mail orders to: Adopt-a-Lake Program, P.O. Box 7800, Tavares, FL 32778. Checks should be made payable to Lake County BCC, and an additional $1 should be included for postage.
The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program encourages local civic organizations, individuals and fraternal and business groups to adopt a segment of a lake's shoreline. The program is comprised of three separate components: Water-quality monitoring, public education and pollution prevention. Volunteers can select which aspects of the program best fit their level of interest.
