TAVARES – Contestants submitted more than 200 photos of Lake County’s waterways for the 2015 Adopt-a-Lake calendar photo contest, but only one picture could win the coveted cover spot. After two weeks of online voting, that honor goes to Beverly Abdendour, who snapped a colorful sunset photo of Lake Eustis.
The top 14 finalists’ photographs will be featured in the 2015 calendar, with the runners’ up photos included in a special section on the back of the calendar.
Now in its sixth year of production, the Adopt-a-Lake calendar will be available beginning Monday, Nov. 24 for a suggested donation of $5, with proceeds benefiting the Adopt-a-Lake Program. The calendar may be purchased during normal business hours at the Lake County Administration Building at 315 W. Main Street in Tavares, the Solid Waste Administration Office at 13130 County Landfill Road in Tavares and at the Lake County Public Works Department’s Water Resource Management Laboratory at 12923 County Landfill Road in Tavares. Mail orders may be placed to: Adopt-a-Lake Program, P.O. Box 7800, Tavares, FL 32778. Checks should be made payable to Lake County BCC, and an additional $1 should be included for postage.
The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program encourages local civic organizations, individuals and fraternal and business groups to adopt a segment of a lake's shoreline. The program is comprised of three separate components: Water-quality monitoring, public education and pollution prevention. Volunteers may select which aspects of the program best fit their level of interest.
