TAVARES – Describing his excursion along Lake County’s blueways as a “special experience,” Chad Crawford, host of “how to Do florida,” recently filmed a lake hopping adventure along a series of local paddling trails on the Harris Chain of Lakes that offer a unique view of the area.
“Paddle boarding and kayaking have become some of the most popular ways to see a different side of Florida,” said Crawford. “But the nostalgia of paddling a canoe amongst the beautiful cypress trees is a special experience I have always enjoyed.”
A blueway is similar to a hiking trail with markers guiding users through the waterways.
“Lake County’s blueway trails highlight our unique natural resources and wildlife while offering many recreational options for novice and experienced canoers, kayakers and paddlers, alike,” said Adam Ashton, Lake County Sports Coordinator. “This ‘how to Do florida’ episode underscores why Lake County truly is ‘Real Florida. Real Close.’”
Crawford and his wife, Kristy, paddled the Golden Triangle Trail from the Dora Canal to the Dead River and into Lake Harris.
“Paddling through the Dora Canal was an amazing experience,” Crawford said. “This is a journey into natural Florida – birds, alligator and large gorgeous cypress trees line the water’s edge.”
The episode also features the Crawfords shopping in downtown Mount Dora, staying at the historic Lakeside Inn, riding on a large 4x4 at the Showcase of Citrus in Clermont, stand-up paddling at Lake Louisa State Park, bass fishing on Lake Eustis and ending their journey with a spectacular seaplane ride out of Tavares, America’s Seaplane City.
“Lake County delivers a beautiful blend of old and new Florida,” said Crawford.
The “how to Do florida” Lake Hopping episode will air on Fox's Florida Sun Sports on the following dates and times: Friday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 7 a.m. and Thursday, Dec. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
