LEESBURG – Lake County’s Parks and Trails Division is inviting nature lovers to Leesburg this weekend to experience two free events that are suitable for the entire family.
From 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, Park Rangers are inviting the public to the Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve (PEAR) Park Nature Center, located at 4800 University Ave., Leesburg for an open house event. Participants are welcome to explore the nature center, which features a collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, sands and shells, and enjoy a hands-on mini course on “Identifying Minerals” from 10 a.m. - noon for children ages 10 and up, accompanied by an adult.
Residents are also invited to explore Haynes Creek Preserve, located at 34606 S. Haines Creek Road, Leesburg from 9 - 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, as park rangers offer a guided 2-mile hike of this lesser-known natural area, an island that consists of wet deciduous forest and uplands.
