TAVARES – The Lake County Solid Waste Division is reminding residents that beginning this week, all garbage and recyclables must fit inside county-issued carts in order to be picked up during curbside collection service. The grace period for overflow trash to be collected with regular trash ended Feb. 1.
Excess waste can also be disposed of at any of the county’s convenience centers or the county landfill for free. For a complete list of convenience center locations, or to schedule a bulk pickup, visit www.lakecountyfl.gov/garbagecollection, email email@example.com or call 352-343-9400.
Large bulk items such as furniture, may still be placed at the curb for collection. To schedule a pickup for a bulk item, call 352-343-9400.
Under the county’s residential curbside collection program, which kicked off in October 2014, unincorporated Lake County residents were offered three sizes of household garbage and recycling carts - 35, 65 and 95 gallon. Resident may switch their cart size at no cost, one time only, until April 1. To swap carts, call the Lake County Solid Waste Division at 352-343-9400.
Additional carts are available at the following costs: A one-time fee of $60; an additional annual assessment of $20 on tax bill; a delivery fee of $40, which can be waived if picked up at their hauler's distribution locations. Residents may also order an additional recycling cart at no cost, except for a $40 delivery fee, which can be waived if picked up at the hauler’s distribution location.
