Lake County honors 61 volunteers with more than 150 hours of service in 2014

TAVARES – The Lake County Board of County Commissioners honored 61 volunteers who contributed over 150 hours of service in 2014 with a special recognition ceremony during the Feb. 24 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The Volunteer Service Awards recognized volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to various county departments and divisions including Public Resources, Public Safety, Community Safety & Compliance to name a few.

More than 300 citizens volunteered upwards of 24,000 hours, equating to about 12 full time positions with a combined estimated cost savings of over $193,000 to the county.

“I don’t know where we would be without the volunteers and the work that you do. It is very valuable,” said Chairman Jimmy Conner, who presented the awards. “You’ve got a place here where you’re appreciated.”

The honorees included:

1. Lynn McGann – volunteered 151 hours with the Parks & Trails Division.
2. Roberta Moecker –volunteered 151 hours at Cooper Memorial Library.
3. Emil Vandevelde –volunteered 154 hours with the Emergency Management Division.
4. Jim Briggs –volunteered 160 hours with the Literacy Program.
5. Martha Harnit –volunteered 164 hours with the Literacy Program.
6. Kathleen Weaver – volunteered over 164 hours at Cooper Memorial Library.
7. David Rudolph – volunteered 165 hours with the Literacy Program.
8. Tony Roberts –volunteered 168 hours with the Literacy Program.
9. Gary Davis –volunteered 171 hours with the Literacy Program.
10. Nancy Griebel –volunteered 172 hours with the Parks & Trails Division.
11. Sandra Stout –volunteered 172 hours with the Literacy Program.
12. Peg Lindsay –volunteered over 172 hours with the Parks & Trails Division.
13. Lanny Villinis –volunteered over 172 hours with the Facilities & Fleet Management Department.
14. Linda Perrine –volunteered 178 hours at Cooper Memorial Library.
15. Ruth Rouse –volunteered over 181 hours at Cagan Crossings Community Library.
16. Carl Mullins – volunteered over 187 hours with the Literacy Program.
17. Peg Urban –volunteered over 184 hours with the Parks & Trails Division.
18. Gwendolyn Coffindaffer –volunteered 185 hours with the Literacy Program.
