TAVARES — The largest graduating class ever of future Lake County firefighters will be honored at a 6 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Lake Technical Center, located at 2001 Kurt St. in Eustis. In addition, three Lake County firefighters will be promoted to lieutenant.
In all, 35 firefighters completed the three-week firefighter orientation program, which instructs candidates about the practices and protocol of the Lake County Department of Public Safety, Fire Rescue Division. Of the group, 27 will be assigned to stations the following week and the remaining eight will serve as temporary firefighters.
“This is a larger class than we had last year,” said Jack Fillman, Lake County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief-Administration. “Last year, the Fire Rescue Division honored 29 new firefighters and promoted three firefighters to lieutenant.”
All 35 graduates are dual certified as either firefighter/EMT or firefighter/paramedic. Scheduled to be promoted to lieutenant are firefighters Bruce Bowers, Shannon Bush and Donovan Miller.
The graduation and promotion ceremony will be capped with the badge-pinning ceremony where family members participate in the presentation of the new badges.
