GROVELAND – Students will learn firsthand about the consequences of driving under the influence during a mock DUI crash at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9 at South Lake High School, located at 15600 Silver Eagle Road, Groveland.
The Lake County Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) will be hosting the event with high school juniors and seniors at the school’s football field. The educational program was designed to create a realistic scene showing how alcohol-related traffic accidents can impact those involved.
“This mock DUI crash provides a realistic look at the serious and horrifying consequences of drinking and driving,” said Noble Olasimbo, president of the CTST. “The demonstrations help encourage students not to drive under the influence.”
The mock DUI crash is made possible with the help of partners including The Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Lake County Sheriff's Office, the Lake County School Board, the Lake County Fire Rescue Division, City of Groveland Police and Fire Departments, Lake County Public Transportation Division, Lake County Public Works Department, Lake Emergency Medical Services, Life Care, Florida Highway Patrol, Office of the State Attorney Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida, Brewer & Sons Funeral Home and ABATE of FL, Inc.
