SORRENTO – Celebrating local military and cultural heritage, the East Lake Heritage Festival will be held from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday May 16 at the East Lake County Library, 31340 County Road 437, Sorrento.
Lake County Commissioner Leslie Campione will be offering the opening remarks for the event, which will include a ceremony honoring veterans killed in action and feature historical military vehicles and a civil war re-enactment campsite.
The festival’s keynote speaker, Bill Belleville, is an award-winning local author and documentary filmmaker who will discuss Florida's nature and unique culture. Other speakers include Dr. Eugene Burley, Felix Ramirez, Bob Grenier and Dixie Royal.
The Avian Reconditioning Center will present a program featuring Ike the Eagle as well as three other species of rescued birds. A country store will offer locally produced food items such as blueberries, honey and jams and jellies for sale, and with local crafters and craftsmen selling their wares. Music will be provided on two stages by the Blackwater Creek Bluegrass Band, and other local bands and choirs. Supervised children’s craft activities will be held all day in the library.
