LEESBURG – Lake County residents can discover all the places they can go on Lake County’s fixed route transit service, LakeXpress, with a free ride on Thursday, May 14. The effort is a part of the “Real Rides, Real Destinations” campaign, sponsored by reThink, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation that helps commuters with their transportation options.
To celebrate the day, a ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Town Square Park, located at 510 W. Main St. in downtown Leesburg. Community leaders from Lake County, the city of Leesburg, and the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization will be on hand to share their insights on the importance of transportation options for residents.
“We have very committed riders on our buses and we really appreciate them,” said Dottie Keedy, Director of Community Services at Lake County. “We hope this day of free rides is welcomed by both our current riders and those who are curious about LakeXpress.”
To take advantage of the free rides offered on May 14, board a LakeXpress bus at any marked bus stop or flag down a bus along one of the routes. Once on board, riders will receive a “Real Rider” sticker and a thank you gift. After the event, a digital camera will be awarded to a rider who shares a picture of their trip on Twitter or Facebook using the #LXRealRider hashtag.
