LEESBURG — Sponsorship registration will close on Friday, Aug. 14 for Lake County’s 4th Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 2-4 at Venetian Gardens, 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg. The Wings and Wildflowers Festival will feature field trips in birding hotspots and wildflower havens, as well as bring some of the nation's top birding, wildflower and nature experts to the area.
Sponsorships begin at the Monarch level for $250, and go to $2,000 for the top-tiered Florida Scrub-Jay level. Sponsors of the festival will be included in all advertising, social media, website and other promotional outlets. Last year’s Wings & Wildflowers festival reached an attendance of over 4,000 people and included more than 30 classes and nearly 50 field trips at 21 sites countywide, with Venetian Gardens as a central location for many of the activities.
“The festival is an ideal event for sponsors to gain a greater presence in Lake County, as well as in the growing birding and wildlife communities,” said Robert Chandler, Lake County Economic Growth Director.
Those interested in becoming an exhibitor or vendor for the educational, family-friendly fair must do so by Monday, Aug. 31. Businesses specializing in tourism, nature activities, landscaping, gardening, irrigation, hardscapes, horticulture, fertilizer and more are encouraged to sign up for this popular three-day event. Rates range from $25 for non-profits to $175 for double exhibitor space.
This year’s festival keynote speakers include James Currie, a native of South Africa, conservationist, lifelong birder and host of Nikon’s Birding Adventures TV; Dr. Ken Meyer, associate professor with the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida; Gallus Quigley, expert birder, biologist and Trails Specialist with the Lake County Parks & Trails Division, and Melinda Myers, contributing editor for “Birds & Blooms” magazine and host of “Melinda’s Garden Moment” TV and radio show.
