MOUNT DORA — The Lake County Economic Development & Tourism Division is inviting residents and visitors to “Birding in Lake County,” a talk by acclaimed international birder and host of Nikon’s Birding Adventures TV, James Currie, on Friday, Sept. 4 from 2-4:30 p.m. at Lakeside Inn, 100 N. Alexander St., Mount Dora.
“Lake County is one of the premier birding locations in Florida and with such hotspots as Lake Apopka and Emeralda Marsh, the county is sure to continue to deliver many rare and unusual sightings for many years to come,” said Currie.
During the speaking engagement, the South Africa native and lifelong birder will also be discussing his recent book, “When Eagles Roar,” which delves into Currie’s experiences as a game ranger and birding guide, and his time as managing director of Africa Foundation.
The event is free, and copies of Currie’s book will be available for purchase and signing after the talk.
Currie will again return to Lake County to serve as a keynote speaker for the 4th Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival, to be held Oct. 2-4 at Venetian Gardens, 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg. The Wings and Wildflowers Festival will feature field trips in birding hotspots and wildflower havens, as well as bring some of the nation's top birding, wildflower and nature experts to the area.
Guests of the festival will have at least two opportunities to meet Currie: at “Dinner with Melinda Myers and James Currie,” from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 and immediately following dinner during “Meet the Experts,” from 7:30-8:30 p.m., both at Lakeside Inn.
