MOUNT DORA —The Lake County Public Works Department this week finished a new sidewalk along Eudora Road and retrofitted another in the Sylvan Shores neighborhood near Mount Dora. The work was completed as part of the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) Safe Access to Schools initiative and the Countywide Sidewalk Program.
The project provided sidewalk connections from Triangle Lanes Bowling Alley, the Mount Dora Commons Apartments, and the neighborhoods of Reedy-Kirkland, West Sylvan Shores and Sylvan Shores to Triangle Elementary School and U.S. Highway 441, allowing students and pedestrians safer access. New and refreshed crosswalks were also built along Eudora Road and intersecting streets where the sidewalks were added.
The sidewalks serve not only students, but also LakeXpress bus riders and residents walking to businesses along U.S. Highway 441.
The total project consisted of 5,912 feet of sidewalk: 952 feet of which was new and 4,960 feet of which was retrofitted. The sidewalks cost $207,965 and were paid for through the infrastructure (penny) sales tax.
